Cyber Dawg 26 Brings Cyber Partners Together in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Georgia National Guard conducted Cyber Dawg 26, a joint, live-action cybersecurity exercise Sept. 21-25 at the Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center in Augusta, Georgia.
Cyber Dawg brings together military, government and partner organizations to train against realistic cyber threats and strengthen the relationships needed to respond when those threats become real-world incidents. The exercise originated in 2019 and has continued to develop a whole-of-state approach to cyber awareness, readiness and coordination.
During Distinguished Visitor Day Sept. 23, Lt. Col. Mike Mallon, the Senior Cyber Advisor and DCOE chief, briefed visitors on the exercise and its cyber defense scenarios.“Cyber Dawg focuses on realism, relationships, and readiness,” said Mallon, who has played a key role in the exercise.
Cyber Dawg also continued the Georgia National Guard’s work with its international partners. Georgia Guard senior leaders met with representatives from the Republic of Georgia and Argentina during the exercise.
Both countries has State Partnership Program relationships with the state of Georgia. The country of Georgia partnership was established in 1994, while partnership with Argentina began in 2016. These partnerships give participants an opportunity to share knowledge, train together and better understand how different organizations approach cyber defense.
For the Georgia National Guard, exercises like Cyber Dawg provide an opportunity to test capabilities, work alongside partners and prepare cyber professionals for missions that can extend from Georgia to locations around the world.
